- Cohen honour recalls poetry jam By James Reaney (London Free Press) The rationalization for this story is the tenuous (OK, nonesistent) link between Cohen’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and his appearance on Oct. 26, 1964 “warily circling the dinner table at 276 Huron St. as he and other stellar Canadian poets — Phyllis (Bloom) Gotlieb and the late Earle Birney — visited [the writer’s] parents before reading at UWO’s old Convocation Hall.” According to the writer’s mother, poet Colleen Thibaudeau, who also supplied the quote atop this post, “I’ll never forget him walking around the table and saying, ‘I can’t eat that, I can’t eat that.”
