The weighty stone blocks used to construct its 200-plus buildings were hauled huge distances, probably using ramps. Those terrace walls and houses are mortared, but the special places, like the Temple of the Sun, are not. They are made of precisely cut blocks that fit together perfectly, without mortar, like Lego pieces. More impressive, the pieces also fit snugly against irregular natural rock formations.

Maternal Tchotchke Inventory Hits The Charts Almost one year ago, someone discovered my photos of Mom’s collectibles and tagged it on StumbleUpon. That day about 2,000 different folks dropped by 1heckofaguy.com to take a look at the Gallery Of My Mother’s Inventory of kitchen implements, farm tools, saws, mallets, meat grinders, ceramics, doodads, gadgets, widgets, and much, much more that fill the cabinets, shelves, tables, counters, and, most prominently, the walls of my mother’s home in the Ozarks. Now, 2,000 hit isn’t going to threaten Boing-Boing, but it remains one of my humble blog’s best days ever.
